February 10th, 1763

A student asked me, when I pointed out that not much was being made of the anniversary of the Treaty of Paris this year, "But, do we have to celebrate?"  It made for a good teachable moment about the distinction between celebration and commemoration, and about the convenience of historical anniversaries as pedagogical opportunities.

Those interested in reading through the treaty, on this February 10th, 2013, can find transcriptions online, including here on the website of Yale's law library.  De même pour le texte en français, que l'on peut par exemple consulter ici sur le site de l'Université de Perpignan.
